The International Liverpool-John Lennon Airport is situated 12 km south-east of the city centre. Until 2000, the Airport was known as the Speke Airport after the name of the district. In 2000, while celebrating the 20th anniversary of John Lennon's tragic death, the airport was named after the famous musician and a quotation from "Imagine", "Above us, only sky", became the motto of the airport.

The airport is one of the most rapidly developing airports in Europe, with the increase of their passenger handling from 875,000 to 4.96 million between 1998 and 2006.

The airport services mainly low cost airlines and charter flights.

Szczecin-Liverpool service is provided by  Ryanair.
