Tips for passengers

After arriving at the airport, the passenger shall contact a relevant check-in desk. The passenger should hand over a valid ticket and ID (and possibly other required documents, such as visa, vaccination certificate, etc.) to the check-in officer to receive a boarding pass authorising the passenger to get on board of the plane. The main luggage undergoes security and customs checks and is delivered to the luggage compartment of the plane. The passenger may declare goods at the check-in desk to claim reimbursement of VAT.
After the handling service announces that passengers may board the plane, the passenger should present their boarding pass and ID

Passengers should arrive at the airport for check-in not later than the hour required by the carrier, at least 1 hour before the flight (applies to passengers flying with LOT Polish Airlines.
Passengers flying with low cost carriers (Ryanair, Norwegian, Wiozzair) should contact a check-in desk 2 hours before their flight. Check-in is closed 40 minutes before planned departure. Late passengers will not receive their boarding pass and will not be able to take their flight.
Ryanair passengers who are late for check-in, but arrive to the check-in desk before the flight may rebook their tickets subject to additional fee.

A passenger should have a visa or other documents (passport, vaccination certificate, etc.), which are required to cross the border of a given country, otherwise border control will not allow the passenger to cross the state border.

A document required while travelling internationally is a valid passport (from 1 May 2004 Polish nationals may use their IDs while travelling within European Union). Before your trip, please check requirements applicable to validity of passports when crossing borders of particular countries.
Information about visas and passports can be obtained in embassies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Maximum quantities of goods to be brought to Poland duty free: 1 litre of vodka, 2 litres of wine, 5 litres of beer, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 g tobacco/snuff, perfumes not more than 50 ml and eau toilette not more than 250 ml.  Any cash in excess of EUR 10 thousand should be declared before customs clearance.

A passenger should eliminate from their hand luggage and personal belongings goods that are prohibited for transportation in the passenger cabin, such as regular knives, folded or spring knives, axes, swords, bats, tools, razors, scissors, nail files, tweezers, ice picks, ice axes, other axes, corkscrews, replicas of objects above, firecrackers, fireworks, etc.
Passengers should carefully read safety information at the ticket and information boards.
During the security check procedure before ticket control, a passenger should place goods that are prohibited in the passenger cabin in their registered luggage.
Goods that are prohibited in the passenger cabin are not accepted for deposit; passengers are required to dispose them before security check at the gate.
From 6 November 2006 on, hand luggage may only contain a limited volume of liquids. A passenger may take maximum 1 litre of liquid, cream or gel. Each packet containing the above substances should not exceed 100 ml and should be additionally packed in plastic transparent zip-top bag which should be presented on request of relevant services.

Permitted goods include liquids placed in registered luggage, medicine and components of special diet placed in hand luggage, including nutrient for children to be used during a flight. A passenger may also transport liquids, such as beverages and perfumes, but only those purchased within the zone after passing the security checkpoint or a shop on board of a plane.

To enable separate security screening at the checkpoint, passengers are required to present all liquids, remove notebooks from luggage as well as other large electronic devices. Electronic devices need to have their batteries charged to switch them on during screening.

Every passenger is responsible for the content their luggage. It is recommended to use suitcases/bags with closure (padlocks, dial locks, key locks, etc.).

Passenger should not accept any goods for transportation from other people (parcels, gifts, envelopes, etc.). It is not allowed to leave your luggage unattended at the Airport.
Your check-in luggage should not include: delicate and perishable goods, glass bottles, electronic equipment, such as computers and peripheral devices, jewellery and gems, cash, keys, photographic and video cameras, important documents, briefcases with alarm devices, medicine, medical certificates and identification documents. A passenger is responsible for making sure that their luggage is properly packed and does not contain prohibited goods, as listed below

For security reasons, it is prohibited to transport the following goods in your luggage:

• gas under pressure,
• corrosive and chemically active substances,
• explosives, pistols, ammunition, fireworks and firecrackers,
• liquid and solid inflammable materials
• radioactive materials
• suitcases and briefcases with alarm systems,
• oxidising agents
• chemical or biological poisonous substances,
• other hazardous goods, as defined in carrier’s regulations

Medicine and cosmetics useful while travelling can be transported in limited quantities.

For security reasons, all portable equipment emitting radio waves cannot be used on board of a plane, including: mobile phones, pagers, radio transmitters and receivers, remote control units (e.g. for controlling toys). In such devices power need to be switched off during the entire stay on board of a plane. It is permitted to use computers, electronic games, CD and cassette players, video cameras, etc. according to announcements made by the crew.
